Import Images With No White Background
Posted by Anthony Uccello on January 18, 2011 at 6:25 amAfter searching for an hour and not being able to figure what must be really simple out, I request some help!
I have a PNG file which has an image with the background removed. However when import the PNG a whitebackground appears.
How do I import an image but not have the whitebackground? I.e. how to do I set the clip to straight unmatted (I think thats what I need).

January 18, 2011 at 10:38 amWhat version of Prem are you on? it should allow for alpha channels…
maybe try as a layered .psd, Prem cs5 does ask me which layers to import. -

I open the PSD file in photoshop and it is indeed an alpha image. However the background layer is LOCKED. And everytime time I click the layer it just beeps. Is there a way to fix this or unlock the layer? I think something funky is going on with that lock

January 18, 2011 at 10:57 pmDouble click on the layer that will unlock.
If you can upload the psd somewhere we could have a look why its not working.
The psd needs to be in RGB mode. -

January 19, 2011 at 6:41 amThe file is in “indexed” color mode, and as the comment above says, needs to be in RGB mode.
Go to the “Image” pulldown menu, then “image mode, then “RGB color” and that will make the layer accessible.

January 19, 2011 at 6:47 amThank you so much that fixed it!
So I guess the PNG files I got are in the wrong mode for Adobe Premiere and I need to go through (all 500 yikes) and change them into RGB mode correct?

January 19, 2011 at 11:31 amYou don’t have to do all the png’s one by one.
You can set an action script.
Here is a tutorial how to set such a script.
