I have a consistent and persistent problem with this feature in Sony Vegas. The problem seems to stem from the fact that the Import algorithm seems to assume that chapter points only occur at camera start/stop points. I have DVD’s that I have created with chapter points at time based intervals – i.e. every five minutes but not necessarily at start/stop points. When Vegas imports and breaks into files at chapter points there are obvious breaks in the timeline (particularly audio). I find no feature to overide the position of file breaks.

My present workaround is to use TMPGEnc (express or Authoring Works) to rip back to a mpg file. Then, (in the case of Authoring Works) rename the file with an mpg extension and let Vegas read that file. It works, but I find it cumbersome.

It would be nice to have )a couple check boxes on the Import from Camcorder Disc dialogue: 1) ignore chapter breaks when importing – i.e. make one big file 2) Convert chapter breaks to markers

Valid point, but since camcorders with DVD write are dead, I wouldn’t expect development for legacy formats.
