  • import bug between AE CS3 and Photoshop CS3

    Hi,
    I just came across a strange bug, has anyone seen this, and have any ideas? I have a layered photoshop file. In this file, I have a folder of layers. I then copy that, and merge the layers into 1 layer. When I try to import an individual layer into AE (by selecting choose layer), I select a named layer, but it brings in a different layer. Very strange. If I import the file as a composition, all of the individual layers are correct. I can do this, to work around for this project and replace layers in the comps. The problem is if I had a footage item, and just wanted to replace that file in the project, with an individual layer, it would not work. Interestingly, If I delete the grouped layers from the psd, so all layers are merged, AE correctly imports layers? Very Strange.

    Not a solution to you post mike g but im also having problems with importing .PSD files in CS3. For some reason AE wont let me choose if to import the .psd as footage or a comp. Instead i just get footage.

    Anyone know whats up? Possibly something i can reset? .ai files work file and i can choose ‘import as comp/footage’ 🙁

    I’ve complained about this before, it has something to do with the Layer Sets in the PSD. I had yet to hear anyone else complain on the forum, so I guess it’s nice to know that people outside of my company are suffering as well (;

    The way I’ve been getting around it is by either not using Layer Sets to organize layers (ugly PSD) or importing my PSDs as Compositions (ugly AEP). What I’d really like to hear is that Adobe is working on a fix, because it is truly annoying… and it seems like it should be easy to fix (especially since it worked properly in 7.0).

    yes, it really is a pain in the butt, but at least merging the layer sets, or importing the footage as a comp brings in the correct layers.

    This bug will be fixed in an update that will be released in December.

    I think I’m having a similar problem although not sure. A friend creates a logo for me which contains 10 layers of backgrounds, text and a graphic. Actually, he created it using AI and then added content in PS_ver. CS2.
    I take the file (Logo.PSD), bring it up in PS-CS3, and all the layers are there and it looks great. I then go into After Effects CS3, import the file and the layers don’t come with. I tried importing as “Footage”, “Composition” per an online Adobe video and still no layers show up. I’m torn between this being a PS compatibility type issue as opposed to an AE issue. I’m also thinking it has to be something simple that I am missing.
    Hope someone can help?
    Thanks!
