  • Import Avid XpressPro project into FCP

I am an avid editor starting to learn FCP.
I have a big project that i started in Avid XpressPro that i now have to be complete in FCP.
How do i import the project into FCP?
In addition i have a lot of translated texts in the locators(anotatable time code position markers) in AVID. Is there an equivalent function in FCP and if so, can i import and see these in FCP?
Any leads on tutorials helping editors moving from Avid to FCP welcomed.
    thanks
    Kate

[kate] “How do i import the project into FCP? “

You need Automatic Ducks PRO IMPORT software: https://www.automaticduck.com/products/pifcp/
You can try an EDL, but that is touch and go.

Your locators will not transfer, and in FCP, MARKERS are not nearly as powerful as Avids LOCATORS. They don’t move when the timeline does (if they are attached to the timeline) and they don’t show up on the timeline if you attach them to a clip. And there is no MARKER MANAGER like Avid’s LOCATOR MANAGER. I miss my locators.

Go to Amazon.com and look up FINAL CUT PRO FOR AVID EDITORS. Great book.

Why switch mid project? Avid not able to do something FCP can?

    Thanks for your response.
I’m forced to switch editors as my relatively new G5 has gone down and is being replaced by the new intel chip Mac which Avid XpressPro doesn’t support yet!

In FCP how do you deal with a project in which there is a lot of subtitled dialogue? Would attached markers be the only choice?
    thanks

You got me. I have never done it, so I haven’t had to figure it out. What I would probably do though is attach the marker to the clip, then you can toggle between markers with the SHIFT-M and OPTION-M keys. Back and forth.

Know that Automatic Duck now supports the transfer of text files from Avid to FCP so if you created text elements in Avid, you’ll be able to still use those in FCP.
