Import as 16-235 or 0-255…?
Hello, I’ve asked about importing footage as 16-235 or 0-255 on the Facebook group, and am still not entirely satisfied, so am wondering, given you’re often more technically aware Floh, if you had a definitive answer, (or if I need to quiz Sony to figure out what the PMW 200 is shooting)…
…filmed footage on a Sony PMW 200 in XDCAM EX:
Codec – MPEG-2 Long GOP,
Color Sampling – YCbCr 4:2:0 8bit,
Bitrate – 35Mbps,
Frame Size – 1280×720,
Frame rate – 29.97fps,
Field Order – Progressive.….although my final output will be Youtube (so it’ll end up 0-255 I presume), do I bring that footage into Media 100 and work with it as 16-235 in the file import settings? And only worry about 0-255 during the final transcode to H264 for Youtube? Or should I bring it in as 0-255?
Does MPEG-2 Long GOP YCbCr 4:2:0 8bit, mean it has recorded as 16-235?
I read on wikipedia that:
“For example, the scaling and offset applied to the Y′ component per specification (e.g. MPEG-2[1]) results in the value of 16 for black and the value of 235 for white when using an 8-bit representation.”The settings above are from Catalyst Browse. I am going through the rewrap preset on Edit Ready before bringing into Media 100.
