This might be a supper easy question to answer but I just wanted to get an idea of what format and how to do it. I am working on many models that will someday be combined into a large C4D file. What I want to do is to build lets say 4 different space ship. I want to model, texture, expressions and then export that model out as a self contained model to build a library. Later I can import it into what ever scene I need it for. In the Export I see C4d XML format and many other but I don;t know which one to use. Also how do I import that model? Do I just select open or merge? I don’t see an import area. I am use to Electric Image where you can import a model and export it as a self contained model.

    Thanks,

C4D does not support external referencing. When you merge a model/ scene, all items contained in the imported scene, they become part of the new scene. Modifying the former separate scene will not update the models in the merged scene, you need to import again and delete the old stuff. Since you are working in C4D, keeep your spaceships as C4D files. To avoid confusion just for the life of it take good care of your naming.

Ok, so if I understand you correctly I would just create a model and add texture maps and make it look nice and just save that project. I would do that for all of the models. Then later I could create a new scene and just merge the other .C4D into the one scene that I am working on, right?

Cool. I need to be careful then. When I create something I like to drop in lights and animate it. I should try to just build the model and then start a new C4D project and merge it into that new project for animation then.

    Thanks!
