I have been assigned a project to create a dvd from still images…adding motion to them and text. I have done some working with images before but usually for lower quality vids for the web, so the pixelation wasn’t really a big deal. Here the client wants an HD quality slideshow for her art print photographs.

I am partial to FCP, I like the control I have over transitions and motion. I have the project all ready assembled in FCP. Unfortunately I a not sure I can give her the desired product using my tool of choice. I have both motion and after effects, although I am not as familiar with them as I would like to be. So I guess I am looking for insight from people who have more experience with adding motion to stills and having it not come out looking like crap.

Thanks in advance for any help and insight.

I won’t be burning the DVDs for her…just creating the files. I can provide her with and SD sample but I just need to make sure the quality is there for the DVD guys n gals.

FCP, Motion, and After Effects, all make slideshows WAY more complex then they need to be.

Look into a program called Fotomagico.

I ran a test in from FCP but with mpeg2 compression it just looks terrible. I tried an mpeg 4 compression and it looks better but not good enough. I think After Effects is likely to produce the best result.

    …embraces the learning curve…

I am glad my next project involves actual video LOL.

Another vote for Boinx Software’s FotoMagico. I did a project last year (using the Pro version) that was similar to what you’re doing, and it came out great.

There’s a free 5-day trial available. At least take a look at it.

I took a look at the program it looks nice but it doesn’t have some of the functionality I need. Thank you for the suggestion though I keep the program in mind if I get another project that needs slideshow.
