Does anyone know of a good Image Stabilizer (and image tracker) for FCP? I have tried the demo of CHVelectronis, and I couldn’t figure it out. Avid has one that is extremely intuitive *but, obviously, it doesnt work with FCP).

Any of you worked with an easy to use one for FCP?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hey Walter-

Thanks for the fast reply. Yes, like smoothcam…. But (an I apologize if this is the stupidest question in the history of stupid questions) where is it?

I looked in the FCP user manual and it said its in the Effects Menu under Video Filters/Video/Smoothcam. But there is no smoothcam in there for me. I am using the latest version of FC Studio (6.0.3). How did you get smoothcam? Did you have to install it separately or was in included in the install of FCP?

    Thanks

    David

    [David Bertman] “where is it?”

Effects > Video Filters > Video > Smoothcam

It came standard with FCP 6.0. I just looked at my copy of FCP and that’s where it is.

It should be there if you have Motion installed. You may have to uninstall/reinstall the suite.

    Walter:
you saved my life. I had been looking for ‘image stabilizer’, ‘stablilizer’, ‘motion stablizer’ etc… and couldn’t find anything in FCP video filters – It was driving me nuts until I read your post directing me to ‘smoothcam’.

I’ve found that when I use MPEG Streamclip to convert my video FCP Smoothcam analyzes and processes very quickly. Also, in Streamclip I’m setting my In and Out points so that the clip that goes on my external hard-drive is only the section of the clip I want. This saves a huge amount of external hard-drive space, plus FCP won’t have to render the entire clip – just the section you’ve converted in MPEG Streamclip.

And thanks Tom for the Motion install suggestion. I never would have thought of that for making the Smoothcam effect available. You saved me a lot of time. 🙂
