image size or ratio
I am using vegas video to edit my Youtube videos. Here is a link to one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dFIJrLFux4
I am getting the black borders on the screen. I am told this is due to the format or ratio of the video. Is this something that is fixed when I choose how to render the project or is it caused by the way the video camera films the original footage? I am using Sony DCR-SR80 to film with and Vegas Movie Studio 9 for editing. Set your project to widescreen and render to widescreen and it should look fine on YouTube. From the looks of that video, you rendered a widescreen project to 4:3 with letterbox bars on the top and bottom and then YouTube converted the 4:3 letterbox to 16:9 with pillarbox black bars on the sides. That’s how you got black bars all the way around. Feed YouTube 16:9 video and it will all go away.

Its a combination of original footage ratio, Vegas project settings and render settings. You will see this pillared, letterboxed appearance on TV many time because someone has screwed up or becuase they wanted that look.

My camera is recording in 16:9 format so it must be the rendering of the project in vegas. I will check it and try rendering future videos in widescreen format.
