    Hi,

I’ve inherited a project at work (replacing some content, text edits, etc) in Vegas7.0, project is HDV 720p because most of the content is in that format. I’ve rendered it using MainConcept2 to mpg using Pal DV widescreen template (720 x 576 PAR 1.4…). I’ve used DVD Architect to burn the DVD, the project is set to 16:9 the PAR shows up as 1.4… . The DVD plays on PC fine, exactly as intended. On a 4:3 TV however huge bands on the side are cropped off even though it is letterbox! It’s like it’s playing 14:9?! On a widescreen TV it’s better but bands at the side are still cropped.

I have tried all sorts of combination’s of PAR outputs, using the dvd as an input and re-rendering etc etc. But all to no avail, same output.

    What is going on??????????????????????????????????????????????????

Could be an overscan problem with the TV. Different TVs have different amounts of overscan/underscan (does not happen on computer monitors).

You might render a small segment and use the scanning marks on the preview window as definitive image edges. (Might even come into the ‘title safe’ area) and see what it looks like. You could also try playing the program on different TVs and see if there is any great difference.

I managed to find an acceptable work around. I changed the aspect ratio of the finished mpg to 1.333 and rendered again to 1.4… . That squeezed the picture in and produced balck bands at the side that get cropped.

It seems like it is an overscan thing with the televisions. Thanks for your input
