  • Image sequence/ importing video

    Ok, I’m sorry for asking such a nooby question but I’ve got 2 problems. Firstly, when i try to import a video file as a texture, my whole computer freezes up and crashes, any suggestions? I’ve tried this so far with .avi .mov .wmv and .mp4. Also, to get round this problem i tried to import an image sequence yet i find myself completely lost, could somebody please give me an amateur run-through of how to create an image sequence on C4D? Many thanks!

    if your image sequence is named sequentially and in the same folder you only have to import the first image into your material but to make it work you have to click on the name of the image (in the Material’s Texture slot to open the Bitmap Shader attributes, go to the Animation tab and hit Calculate on the bottom

    Thanks for the response and I’m sorry to be so vague but it still doesn’t work, it simply shows as one image. Any ideas?

    it will render as a moving image (if it does not you have not done it right). If you want it to move when you scrub the timeline go to the material’s Illumination tab (in 10.5) or the Editor tab (in 12 – i don’t know which it is in 11.x but it will be one of those) and check off ‘Animate Preview’

    Once again I am very grateful for your response, although it neither renders as a moving image nor does it move when I scrub through having ticked animate preview. I should also mention that I am running R11. Just for reference, and so you can spot if I’m doing anything wrong, all I am doing once C4D is open, is;
    -Adding a background
    -New Texture
    -Select the first of the sequentially named JPEG files
    -Hit calculate in the animation tab
    -Tick animate preview in the editor tab

    Is there anything I’m missing out? Also, do you have any idea why my computer crashes when I try to import video? Many thanks..

    What version of Quicktime do you have installed? There was a problem with this in 7.6.6

    Ah thank you for the response. Which one should I download? Unfortunately I can’t seem to find 7.6.4 (The one mentioned on your site) for windows download.

    When you select the first file of your image sequence, it will ask if it should move the texture to the correct folder.
    If you say yes, it only moves the one file and you have no movie. If you select no, it will read all the files in the image sequence from the original location. You still need to hit the animation tab and calculate.

    Could someone please help me with a related problem to the above. Running r13. Mountain Lion. Yesterday, textures that used video clips were fine as expected. Then today for some reason, they show up as “black”. If I try and reload the video clips into the texture, the same happens. If I try and make a new material, I can load any still image fine, but no matter what format of video clip, it only shows up as black. Can anyone guide me to what could be wrong? I even reloaded in an older file that had video for textures, that too is now black for those textures. I havent made any updates to the system software (such as quicktime) so I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going wrong here? Any help would be more than appreciated greatly 🙂
