Hey there ^^ I’m a noobie to Sony Vegas and I need some guidance on how to move an image. Essentially I have at present I have four tracks (1 audio 3 video) track 1 being used for music track four being used for background. Now- my issue is that to scale the images or small video clips I place on tracks 2 & 3 I’m using the pan/crop event tool because from what I see using the track motion affects the whole track rather than just the events. But- when I use the pan/crop I can’t move the image or video clip out of it’s original boundry.

This may have been haphazardly worded but base level I need a way to either isolate the track motion to one event on a track or just a way to move and scale it around the screen freely. Any guidance or tips would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Ryan,

Using the event pan/crop tool will indeed scale your event, but not the track. To scale the track (to get picture in picture) you have to use track motion. You will find track motion in the track header, with a symbol of a big square and a small square. The Track Motion popup window will look very similar to the event pan/crop window.

“when I use the pan/crop I can’t move the image or video clip out of it’s original boundry.”

When you’re in the Pan/Crop window, right-click and select Match Output Aspect.
This should now allow you to move it anywhere you want.

“I need a way to either isolate the track motion”

Keyframes are your friend here 🙂

If you decide that using match output aspect isn’t your cup of tea because you could lose some of your picture then use keyframes with the track motion. WEhile the track motion does effect the entire track you can keyframe it back to the original position.
