image mask?
Hey folks…
i’m pretty new to FCPX. I’ve got some footage that I’d like to appear as if it was coming out of an old TV. I have an image of an old TV, so far so good.Is there some way to use the TV image to mask the video? So far I’ve just tried cropping the video so it fits onto the screen, but that’s not really as clean as I’d like it to be. The screen isn’t perfectly square, so the video has some rough edges on the bottom.
If I was to cut out the middle of the TV image in photoshop so the “screen” part is transparent, could I then import to FCP?

Yes, just export it from photoshop or wherever as a PNG with opacity preserved and drop it on top of your video.

Also just be sure that the image is large enough to suit your aspect ratio, you don’t really want to scale things too much. In Photoshop you also choose some light bevelling to create a realistic look when embedding in back in FCP.
