I recently switched to FCP 7 after years
of being a Premiere user (CS4 on my MacBook Pro is just too buggy)
and have a question regarding image gain. In Premiere I could take
a clip, apply the “RGB Color Corrector” filter and could manually
increase the image gain. This was particularly useful when shooting
at +6db on my PMW-EX1 and quickly changing to 0db in the middle of a
shot because I could use key frames to make the portion shot at 0db
seamlessly match the gain shot at 6db. (I actually said that
    backwards…)

Regardless, how can I increase the gain of the image without
affecting the gamma, white levels, shadow/highlights, or anything
that greatly compromises the blacks? I can’t believe such a simple
problem has been so difficult for me to figure out, I feel like I’m
starting from scratch all over again!

    Thanks for your time!

There is a Proc Amp filter in Effects > Video Filters > Image Control

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately it seems as if the Proc Amp only affects highlights and the Gamma channel or something. If I push the Chroma up very much at all it washes out the blacks…even after a small adjustment. The Video slider appears to be affecting the saturation and the setup slider the gamma. Obviously the phase adjustment affects the color; what am I missing? What steps do you take if you have underexposed shots to deal with?

Thanks so much for your time!
