Image Aspect ratio vrs video aspect ratio
I’m having troubles with compositing images over video.
It seems my images always end up at a different aspect ratio. I’ve been setting the pan / zoom settings and eyeballing them in the preview window.
However, regardless how hard I try… or if I try to reverse calculate the aspect ratio of the image, it never properly fits.
How do you guys go about compositing an image to fill the entire screen / video playback?

On the image event on the timeline, in the right upper area is a square, click this or right click on the image event and select Video event and crop, and at the top, set it to the video aspect ratio your videos are. You can drag the square around to select the part of the image you want.

Yeah I’m doing this but it’s still leaving me with a letterbox at the top 🙁
I tried calculating the aspect ratio as well and doing it that way but despite my best efforts I constantly get a letterbox.
Is there a different pixel spacing with images versus video or something I’m not factoring in here?
How do you consistently get a good fit of the images to the video when compositing?
Are you simply using the cropping feature?

To get the picture aspect correct, just open pan/crop, then right-click on the image in pan/crop and select “Match Output Aspect”.
Depending on your project settings, you may get a small amount of letterboxing when you render to a format that’s different to your project settings. There’s an option in Project Properties called “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” that lets Vegas tweak the cropping slightly for some media, but I don’t think it affects still images.
