    greetings
i am currently volunteering at a middle school broadcasting class. our imac is currently running 10.5.3. when i click the “look for updates” it comes back with the 10.5.6 update-but when i select the update and try to download, the dialogue window for the downloading appears with a time-remaining progress bar, but the download never proceeds–the time-remaining status bar doesnt progress and the dialogue says the machine is “preparing for the update”, and the download and update never proceeds. Any idea whats wrong here – and how i can get the imac updated?
    cheers-jimb

Are you logged in as a user with Admin privileges?
Launch Disk Utility, select the startup volume and click Repair Disk Permissions button.

If that doesn’t help, start the computer up from its install disk, go to Menu>Disk Utility select startup volume and click Repair Disk button.

If the updater install via “Software Update” is not working for you, download updater from apple.com and run it manually. You should be getting the 10.5.6 “Combo” updater since you need to jump from 10.5.3 from 10.5.6

You do have a backup, right?
