Posted by Larry Watts on October 23, 2015 at 6:45 pmIs there a way to send a file on an iMac via Bluetooth to an iPhone ?
When our internet goes down I need a solution to get things out.
Thx

October 28, 2015 at 3:32 amYou will probably need an app for that. I don’t believe an iPhone and a Mac can natively share files over Bluetooth. You will need an app on the iPhone that accepts Bluetooth files and then you should be able to use the Bluetooth File Exchange app on your Mac to communicate with it.

October 31, 2015 at 1:42 amThere’s this feature in Apple’s computers and phones known as Airdrop. Go search it up. However, airdrop is only available for iPhone 5 and above I believe.

October 31, 2015 at 3:02 amOh yea, I forgot about AirDrop. I believe that while AirDrop uses Bluetooth to find the other device, it uses Wi-Fi to make the actual file transfer so as long as Larry has a Wi-Fi LAN then he can use AirDrop. Even if his Internet is down, his local LAN should still be operational which means he might not need Bluetooth at all.
It’s hard to interpret what he means by “When our internet goes down”. Does he really mean loosing his Internet connection only or loosing the whole LAN? In which case AirDrop might not work.
