iMac DVD drives
I purchased my iMac G4 in 2003 when I lived in the States. On return to London, my DVD drive used my 5 opportunities to play Region 1 DVDs and is now locked at just playing those. Obviously I want to play all DVDs on the drive, region-free. How can I do this (ie how can I make my DVD drive region-free?). Could I just buy an external DVD drive and have that set on REgion 2 thus keeping my internal drive on Region 1. Seems an expensive and clumsy way of doing it. Thanks to anyone that can help.

LOL – if you scroll down about 4 posts I just answered this question. Hold on, I paste my previous answer here for you:
VLC Player https://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738 it bypasses the region codes. I wouldn’t change your code to watch a DVD, use VLC instead of Quicktime player and it should work.
The other option is to use something like MacTheRipper to rip the DVD region free to your hard drive: https://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715
The last option is to find on the web somewhere, a region free firmware flasher for your SuperDrive (you need a different one for most models and brands).
Unless you can find a region free firmware flasher, on the web somewhere, for your specific drive (Apple changes drives often). I’d say you’re stuck with whatever it is set to now. The only option is to do one of the things I listed above, or buy a replacement drive (internal if you want to use it with iDVD, etc with it).
