I am trying to copy a number of FCP projects onto a secondary drive. The projects are complete and I only want to copy the assets that are actually being used in the project. I digitized way more footage than I needed, and that footage is just taking up hard drive space. Rather than copying the raw video files, I want to make new files of the section of the video that is in the project. I still want to have access to the project incase any changes need to be mad in the future, but I only want what is actually being used to take up hard drive space…. I used to do this in Premiere Pro, but I haven’t figured out how to do it in FCP yet.

Grab the manual and look up MEDIA MANAGER. Lays out what you need to do.

Media Manager is a powerful tool which can be dangerous to your sanity if used improperly … i would suggest you investigate only the “Copy” option, don’t even think about playing with any of the other options yet.
