So I’m taking about 1.2 TB of DVCProHD material I captured and recompressing to DV in order to hand to an editor to work with. I ran the following quick test:

As a test, this is what I’ve done, keep in mind all the source clips are anamorphic, DVCProHD, 29.97 1080i60 (1280×1080) They all play back looking just fine, but upon doing the following, they did not look right.

    Selected a short DVCProHD clip.
    Opened Media Manager.
    Selected Media -> Recompress
Selected Recompress media using: DV NTSC 48 KHz Anamorphic
Selected “Include master clips outside selection.”
Selected “Base media file names on existing file names”
Selected Project: Duplicate selected clip and place into a new project
Selected Project: Include nonactive multiclip angles

Created my media destination, and hit “Ok”

It creates the file, but when I load the new clip, it is sqeezed vertically. (So the height of the image is shorter than it should be)

So I did all the same with DV NTSC 48 KHz selected, and it did the same exact thing. (still squeezed vertically)

In both cases, I tried creating an anamorphic sequence and dropping the clip on the timeline to test it,…still squeezed vertically. Tried it as well on a non-anamorphic sequence….same thing…

Any ideas what it might be?

    Thanks in advance

You need to check the ANAMORPHIC box next to the clip to tell FCP to treat it as anamorphic.

I appreciate the feedback….when doing this however, the image gets squeezed more…again, I’ve tried it both with settings of normal and anamorphic when trying to capture,…I’ve also checked the anamorphic field as well,…and its still not properly sizing…

Just to re-iterate my original settings…

My source clip is as follows:

DVCPROHD 1080i60 , Pixel Aspect = HD(1280×1080), anamorphic is not checked. When opening this clip in the viewer,…it has the proper aspect ratio.

if I select the anamorphic setting next to the source clip,…it squeezes it vertically (the image get shorter).

I then media manage it, and recompress using both the DV NTSC 48KHz and DVNTSC 48KHz Anamorphic settigns….they both yield the same exact image…the problem when looking at the recompressed video seems to be in the following settings:

    FrameSize – 720×480
    Compressor – DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
    Pixel Aspect – (1280 x 1080) ***

It seems the Pixel Aspect ratio should be different, I would assume NTSC – CCIR 601

Any idea on why the Pixel Aspect ratio doesn’t correctly convert?

    Thanks!
