    Hi,

I feel very sheepish asking this question but it is driving me crazy.
I used one of the video templates in Illustrator CS3 to work on designing an opening sequence for After Effects.

I like to be able to at various points view my comps without the safety lines but I can’t find where to shut them off!
    In Illustrator,
how can I toggle on and off those bright green video safety lines??

I am normally a photoshop guy, but I am trying to become comfortable in Illustrator and not go running back to PS every time I hit a roadblock.

I know it must be the simplest thing in the world that I am overlooking… but I cant find what it is that shuts them off?

    It must be possible… right??

i think the implementation is a bit funky but vid safe lines are a kind of crop in illustrator. when you select the crop tool the options will show up on the top menu bar and the ability to turn various components of the tv safe display on/off. you can also double klik the crop tool to see various display options for which lines of the tv safe display. selecting crop “make or release” allows you to delete them.

In CS4, click the “Artboard Options” button under the menus at the top of the screen. Then de-select Show Center Mark, Show Video Safe Areas, and Show Cross Hairs.

In CS5 go to Window/Artboards. In the Artboard menu that opens, in the upper right corner, select Artboard Options from the sub menu.

In the dialog that opens un check:

    Show Center Mark
    Show Cross Hairs
Show Video Safe Areas (or any one depending on your needs)

This drove me nuts for a while as well. To get them back reverse the above.

THANK YOU! I went through every menu imaginable to get rid of these bloody guides. What a palaver.

Ha! And co-incidentally I’ve found myself back here, once again fighting with the god-awful abomination that is Illustrator, trying to perform something as simple as turning off those stupid guides!

    Works perfectly!

However, is there a way to also turn off the rulers?

    Thanks!
