I looked through the forums and didn’t find an answer to my question. It seems like a problem someone has probably had before, so if it’s on here somewhere, please forgive me. I couldn’t find it.

Anywho, the issue is with some artwork that I’m trying to “bring in” from Illustrator. I want to use the paths to create masks on solids. I have 4 different ones. The first 2 behaved exactly as they should. The 3rd shows the paths as being masks, although the solid still shows as a comp size blue fill. I can go to the solid and it shows 20 masks, but they have no blend modes to select or anything. It’s like it pasted them, but pasted no paths.

    Any ideas?

That’s actually the problem. It doesn’t give me the option. I said blend modes, but I meant mask modes. It pastes the path and has the numbered masks, but gives no mask modes or actual paths.

Sorry that I wasn’t clear on that before.

[Rich Seemueller] “but gives no mask modes or actual paths”

You only get the mask-modes when your path is closed, use the pen mode or right-click and select >mask shape>closed.

If the first 2 are correct and for mask 3 & 4 AE shows 20 masks…
… you’re mask are probably broken in Illustrator itself.

on the other hand, copying paths from Illustrator has always been a tricky thing 🙁
