  • Illustrator Object won’t let me change to color – only grayscale.

    Hi,

I created some shapes in Illustrator and cut them apart using pathfinder and now i just want to change the inside of a shape from white to purple but it will only turn to shades of gray. I’ve cut and pasted into a new file where I’ve made other color objects but this particular object will only change to shades of gray. I’m so aggravated – what can I do?

Try selecting the object and then go to the color window (probably the top one in the righthand menu). There’s a small arrow/list icon in the top right corner of this window. Click it and choose RGB or CMYK, depending on what you want.

Thanks. I got it to change in the Appearance window.
Not sure what the difference is in the color there and the regular color thing in the toolbar but if this happens to anyone else, check that tricky Appearance window.
