illustrator masks to AE masks
Hi,
Thanks in advance for any help. I’m creating a word in Illustrator, copying the mask and pasting in After Effects on a solid. I have to do a morph from a drop of water into the word. Is there a way to set up the file in Illustrator so when I copy the mask it can come into AE as just one mask, instead of several (masks that drop out holes in letters) because I can’t figure out how to morph with all of those separate masks in AE.

Unfortunately not.
It’s more of a physical impossibility than a deficiency in either program. One mask for the outer, one for the inner.
You can probably get a good start by using the AI paths, but this situation will require a LOT of manual tweaking.
