  Illustrator Font list empty

  All was fine a week or so ago but today I go to illustrator and the font drop list in the charatcer panel is blank. The preview available by the right mouse contextual menu is there. Also if you start to tye the fnt name in the character panel the font is available but no names show up. I re-loaded version 10 and that is fine but it uses a different font engine. I cleared the user preferences and checked all the fonts they all seem fine. They all show up in all the other adobe applications. So far I have found about 5 other users posted this issue in various locations but no resolution.
