  • Illustrator files in texture Channel

Posted by Svenja Frahm on May 12, 2009 at 1:48 pm

    Hi,

I’ve come across this annoying problem quite a few times already since using Cinema R11 and I cannot find ANYTHING about this… must be a bug though.

In R10 I could easily load an illustrator file into a texture channel, but when I do this in R11 the texture turns completely black.

Did this happen to anyone else yet? Any suggestions?

AFAIK Cinema has never supported the use .ai files in materials.

maybe you are thinking about loading in an .ai file and using the imported spline in the Spline Shader?

no, i am not… i just tried it again in R10 and it works fine.
I create a new material and load my illustrator file (cs4) into one of my texture channels and it works.

But I tried it in version 9 yesterday and it didnt seem to work in there as well… or cs4 ist just too new for release 9 to work… will test it again with an ai file saved in a lower version tomorrow.

But still – it used to work in R10 and now its gone…

Does it render correctly in r10, or do you just see it in the viewport? It would be very peculiar if it works, as Cinema doesn’t support *.ai files in textures generally, and it doesn’t support any *.ai files above version 8 — at least officially!

here a screenshot of my test in R10:

it is an illustrator cs4 file and renders fine!

Here the same thing in R11:

I agree that when importing ai files as splines, i would have to save them in version 8 in order to work…

Anyway, that’s not the point… i cannot load any ai (or other vector format) file into a texture Channel in R11.

Just for fun i’ve just tried to use an ai version 8 file in R10 and i get the same result like in R11 with any ai file…. black texture.
so maybe it was a lucky coincident that cs4 files worked in R10?!

Very weird. I would report it to Maxon tech support and see what they say.

maybe it’s using the preview image embedded in the file?

probably… but why does R11 not do it the same way?

mmmh might drop maxon an email then..
