when i diddnt have illustrator cs I would import an illustrator file into my project and place it into my comp. If I wanted to edit that illustrator file I would simply hit command E and illustrator would automatically open. I would make my adjustments and hit save in Illustrator and
that file would update automatically in After effects (I am using AE 6.5 Pro)

NOW, with cs I have to export a legacy version just to get it to import properly. And command E wont work because when I save it, it forces me to save it in another file. Illustrator CS files also import and are invisible.

Does anyone know how to play nice between illustrator cs and AE. Or should I just load an older version of illustrator on my machine?

    Help,

    Scott

I’m working in CS and AE 6.5, and not having that problem…
My illustrator files are imported as compositions, and I have illustrator open in the background for editing. I edit, save, and reload it manually in AE. If things are showing up “invisible” on import, check to see that your background color does not match the types color, thus obscuring it. Also, make sure visibility is on in illustrator before saving.
If the above does not work, perhaps there is an extension plug in that needs to be updated to read CS files.
If you can do what you need in another version of illustrator, it may be best to work that way if you are against a deadline.

You know in earlier versions of Illustrator under Preferences / Files and Clipboard / AICB needed to be checked for path copying and there was a setting under Files that adjusted how the program updated its links.

Perhaps there is something along those lines in both new programs that tells which one to do what between each other? I have yet to load my license of AFX 6.5 pro on this box otherwise I could probably give you an answer.

On my other setups, I haven’t had that trouble before so at the moment that is all I can think of. Maybe some of the seasoned veterans here can chime in.

    HTH,
    Tom
