We record a weekly show. It’s always a speaker in front of lights (parkans). On the flesh line with the scopes in FCPX, the face is the correct colour, but his dark grey suit is showing brown. I haven’t recorded many programmes yet with the EX1 cameras we have, (since we have only just changed from SD to recording in HD), so there is still a bit to learn on the camera score.

But the thing I don’t know is how to colour correct in FCP so that the the face doesn’t look un-natural yet the suit is closer to the the real colour, because if I lower the reds in the mid range or blacks, it corrects the suit but the face is way off!

Maybe we should just concentrate on the lights instead.
Perhaps someone with a lot more experience can guide me in this one.

    Hi Wayne

You can use a Shape or Color mask to isolate just specific areas or colors within the image you want to correct.

The EX1 sensor is sensitive to the low infra-red region of the colour spectrum and you need to use an appropriate filter in front of the lens. Both B+W and Schneider make such filters. Tungsten lighting is usually quite rich in infra-red!

    Hope this helps,

    Geoff

Lower the reds in the blacks, move the mid control directly above the black control, and raise it, bringing back the same amount of red back into the mids. If that doesn’t work you have to go Andy’s route.

    Nailed it.
