If Panasonic’s reading this….new feature for HVX200
Posted by Thom Whitehead on December 8, 2006 at 3:07 pmI’m going to try to contact them anyway, but thought I’d try here as well.
Considering the number of shooters who want to use prime lenses through an adapter which vertically inverts the image…would it be possible in software/firmware to invert the vertical scan of the ccds?
That way, the image would be the correct in the viewfinder, the lcd and the media.
Just a thought….

December 8, 2006 at 5:53 pmWow! There’s a few things I’d rather they address before that!
Better low light performance – less barrel and pincushion on the lens – menu navigation buttons in a logical layout – higher resolution lcds – overcranking in all codecs – focus assist for SD . . .
Bigger P2 cards . . .
But then I don’t understand the craze for sticking custom glass on the end of the thing anyway, so maybe I’m missing something?

December 8, 2006 at 8:07 pmAll I want is a Canon style Pro Jack Pack. Take the DV tape deck out and replace it with Genlock.

December 8, 2006 at 8:15 pmAs an option a jack pack would be nice. Canon charges $3,000 extra for it on the G1 vs. the A1, which is the only difference between them. I wouldn’t want to see people having to pay $3,000 extra for an HVX just to get that when for a lot of users it wouldn’t ever even be used, so if they offered it as an option that could be bought by those who DID need it, that’d be sweet.
As for inverting the image — they’ve been told repeatedly, they know all about it. Until then, just get a Letus35 Flip Enhanced adapter — it’s half the cost of the other ones, it looks great, and it does the flip for you. No hassles, no “magnet”, no “mounting the LCD upside down”, no “flip in post” — it just works. And it’s $700.

December 8, 2006 at 11:43 pmI would say the samething I always say “Delete Last Clip” button. The camera already has a button that lets you view the last few seconds of the clip which I find totaly useless. Better to convert that into the button that deletes the last clip you shot. Much more usefull.
As for as the filp feature for 35mm lens adaptors Before I got my RedRockMicro M2 I was for the filp. Now it won’t matter. The LCD on the HVX is so low quality that you have to use the Focus Assist button to make sure you are in focus. I need to use it for everyshot I take because it is hard to tell with the lens focus and the back focus.
The best thing to do is to invest in a 7″ Marshal HD monitor that has the component ins and use the cable that comes with the camera. Then just turn that monitor upside down and problem is fixed.
Using the a flipped version of one of these 35mm adaptors means more light loss since you need more glass. With the M2 you loss about 1/2 to 1 stop of light. I read with the other you loose between 1 and 2 stops. Once you shoot inside you’ll what I mean. I bout a 50mm f1.4 just because I needed more more light for shooting inside.
The quality is amazing. The HVX gives you the Mechanics of shooting in 24p but the lens give you the softer organic and depth of a film camera.

December 9, 2006 at 12:15 amI agree completely. I would not want to see the base price of the camera go up $3K, but I would gladly spend $6000 to genlock my two camera. Sure, every one can find something to complain about with anything, but over all I love the HVX. We are currently working a project where the clients needs and budget are going to force us to use Canon HX-G1’s. I don’t care that the CCD’s are higher res, they are interlaced and 4:2:0 HDV, Yuck. I don’t care if it’s the HVX-200A or a studio version, (like JVC keeps promising but not delivering), or what, but I really hope they eventually address this and take away Canons biggest advantage in the sub $10K HD camera market.

December 13, 2006 at 5:46 amGood suggestion…and while they’re improving things, how about giving us the ability to see onscreen timecode during record.
System Info – G5/Dual 2 – 10.4.8 – QT v7.1.3 – 8GB ram – Radeon 9800Pro – External SATA Raid – Decklink Extreme – Wacom 6×8

December 13, 2006 at 9:33 pmWhy can’t you see onscreen timecode during recording? It’s displayed at all times in the upper left (unless you’ve used the COUNTER button and toggled it off…)
