    Greetings
I know iDVD is simple but I like the templates so
why does video exported from FCP5 720×486 have
black at top and bottom, almost as if it were trying
to letterbox the images but it’s set at 4:3?
This is from Betacam, component through AJA IO LA
    to G5 dual 2.3
DV video captured directly to iDVD using one step
is good with no black so the problem must be on
    export from FCP.
    Thanks
    Dave

Try exporting at 720×480 which is the standard used for DVD mpeg2 files.
    Hope this helps.

thanks but 720×480 looks the same in iDVD
blacks at top and bottom, not full frame,
after export from FCP 5.0.4 in Quicktime,
uncompressed 8 bit, self contained unchecked.
It doesn’t seem to matter what size I export
when previewed or burned in iDVD.

Somewhere along the way the clips were flagged as 16:9…check the columns in FCP and see if one of them is setting the clips to 16:9 anamorphic. Some colums allow you to change the setting for each clip and some don’t. Change them back to 4:3 and all will be well.

    thanks for the reply,
    I’ve been out for holidays.
the blacks at top and bottom are not
set at 16:9 and don’t look the same
but resemble the old horizontal hold
adjustment. I wish it were as simple
    as a 16:9 setting.
