I have spent hours today reading up on making the best quality dvd from my hdv footage. (pal)
End result was that I proposed to make a self contained quicktime file and burn it at professional quality in idvd. However after hours of reading many more articles on the web I am also toying with the idea of making a self contained quicktime movie and then compressing it in compressor first ( although I have never used compressor).
The advice after that is to burn the dvd in DVD studio pro. However I have FCP 5.1 which dosen’t have DVD studio pro in it and apparently the stand alone version ( if I could find one) won’t work with my intel imac. So that only leaves me with iDVD ( or toast ) I prefer to use iDVD because of the cool menus so my question is should I send my quicktime file to compressor and then to idvd or bypass compressor and go straight to iDVD.
Finally, on a short quicktime test I found that on my old television ( as opposed to my newer widescreen one) the image was squished. Is there something in idvd that will sort this when I burn the finished article
    Many Thanks

iDVD can’t burn from a .m2v/.mpeg (the files generated in Compressor) only quicktime movies. So using Compressor wouldn’t work with iDVD.
As for the squished look, check to make sure your footage is 16×9 or not, then adjust the setting in iDVD. Although iDVD usually automatically adjusts.

    good luck,

Did you check your install disks for DVDSP? I’ve used FCP since v4 and every version included DVDSP.

    Hi John,
I have finally found the installation disks but there must be one missing as I cannot see anything for DVDSP. It seems I am stuck on this one with no way forward unless I can get a disc from somewhere else. Even then I am not sure if each disc in each set has a seperate installation code. I.E. would a disc from another set work with my own installation discs.? And where would I get one if it did?
    Many thanks anyway.
    Brian
