Identifying Effect
Hello everyone, this is my first post so I apologize for not first contributing but I definitely plan to. I would do a search but I’m not sure what to search for considering I don’t know what it’s called.
I see this effect often (a lot of surf videos lately) and I imagine it’s quite easy. What would you call it and is there a simple way to do it? Please see here at the beginning of the video, of the man speaking right after the title shot: https://vimeo.com/23383691
I’m not referring to the dust particles created with trapcode particular, but rather the worn film look. Which, if I search for tutorials for worn film, it comes up with “old timey”, this is a little more 70’s? Maybe I’ve just answered my question but haven’t had much luck looking for a tutorial to recreate that specifically.

Also called “Light Leaks” or “Film Clutter”. Artbeats has a bunch of them. I use blending modes to overlay them and sneak in quick dissolves underneath them.
Love the subject matter. I’m overdue for another Phuket adventure.
