I’d like some advice on the ideal hardware configuration for a CS3 editing laptop. I’m fielding laptop editors for the Army, and we’re just swapping over to CS3 Production Premium from Avid Xpress Pro HD.

I want to make sure I’ve got the best components under the hood possible. Can anyone help me out? We currently ship 1 Beyond 15 inch screens with Core 2 Duo 2.00 Ghz, 2 gb of ram, 120 gb HDD (5600rpm), and a 256 MB NVidia video card.

Any advice, posted here or e-mailed to me, would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Mike Lavigne

    Hi Mike,

It depends on whether you guys are going to go HD in the near future. The configuration you listed would be ok for SD, although I would want to have a bit more RAM for overheads.

I would also pick a laptop with eSata ports, since a single drive will yield to poor performance, or add an eSata card that supports RAID configuration.

You would also need at a minimum 7200 RPM drives (250 GB or more).

    Good luck,

    Vince
