    Hi,

I need some advice on how to properly re-format/compress .avi video from a PC for editing on a Mac using Final Cut ProX or imovie.

Recently I received a IMac as a gift and so I could learn Final Cut ProX. I have an XLH1A that outputs .m2t files and will need to know for my own files, but also who have clients that want footage transferred so they can edit it themselves on their Macs.

Being a newbie to the Mac (since 8.6)I’m also interested in finding out about any books or resources, pref by people who love Final Cut, that can help me learn the hidden features, as well as day to day.

If they open in FCPX just right click and Optimize them to ProRes. If not, convert them to ProRes via MPEG Streamclip or Compressor. Either way they should become ProRes QuickTime MOVs. That said, anyone who has a Mac could do the same with most AVIs so I’m not sure a conversion service is particularly necessary.
