Has anyone else had this problem?…

Using the new FCP 7 “share” feature to show the timeline to someone at another location. I initiate a video ichat. All works as it’s supposed to: I see the other person in a big window and I see myself in a little window. He sees me in a big window and himself in a small one.

Then I begin “sharing” from the FCP timeline. I see what I’m supposed to see, but my viewer now sees HIMSELF in the large window and the timeline video in the small window. Once the sharing starts, my viewer no longer sees me at all. I know this is not what is supposed to happen. I don’t care so much that he doesn’t see me, but I do care that he only sees the video in a tiny window.

I’ve tried this with several viewers, all with the same result. For a camera, I’m using an iSight. I doubt having an external camera is the issue, since a conventional video ichat works perfectly.

Try it without the camera. I suspect it’s the problem. Because it’s FW the app isn’t sure what it’s supposed to be sending.

    All the best,

Good point. I’ll try it out an report back.

If you’re right, it would mean that the ichat share only works as advertised on computers with built-in cameras, or perhaps monitors with built in cams. And that’s a shame because I bet most of us don’t work with that kind of set up.

    Thanks for the reply.

For what it\’s worth I have successfully been using iChat theatre from my macpro and an old apple fw ext camera with a range of clients including one with no camera – a \’one way video chat\\\’. I have to say I think it is absolutely stunning and a huge leap forward for me. I have had comfortable creative conversations with directors – almost as good as sitting next to them. Surprised I haven\\\’t read more praise for this feature on the forums.

Still trying to sort this out. I tried it without the isight attached, but ichat won’t open a video chat without a camera attached, and FCP won’t “share” unless a video ichat is already open. Hmmm

I was experimenting with ichat theater feature last night and found that you need to launch ichat first and connect to your buddy. Then launch FCP and start sharing. I had problems when I tried doing it the other way around. I was using my macbook pro with an external iSight camera because my internal microphone wasn’t working . . .

It worked pretty well – My buddy said the sound cut out a few times during playback. Pausing, rewinding fixed it however. I also liked that when I double clicked a clip to trim and it opened in the viewer he could see the viewer’s output as well! Very neat new feature indeed!
