    hmm
i had done an iChat search and came up with nothing much, but now saw a similar post from days ago which does mention another system, so sorry! but im still interested to find out:

    Hi there all

95% of my clients have PC’s and I have had limited success using AIM. They can see the video but it looks like a pile or crap… really not even remotely (excuse the pun) acceptable.

Has anyone tried Jabber or Google Talk (not sure if either supports video at all)

I assume iChat to iChat works pretty well, or there would be some negative posts on that, but Id appreciate any feedback/tips.

    Tx
    Mark.

Really video over the web isn’t good At all … it’s there for a reference but not really to see a large video.

It also depends on the connection speed of your end and of theirs.

I had a client one time ask me to show the video of a video conference … and it was not a good idea. The sound was also off.

And we tried Google, Aim, MSN and iChat. Their connection where they were at was just not up to Par for what video demands.

You are better off … loading your video you want to show them on to an FTP area then progressive stream it to them to view off the web. And then comment on the video via IM.

    Hi Raymond,
    Thanks for the response.

At work we have a very fast fibre optic connection, I work at TBWA agency… my test was between the work macpro and my personal macbook pro booted to Windows 7. Both computers hard wired to the building ethernet, and capable of very fast up and downloads… the picture quality was far worse than making a skype video call wirelessly on my laptop from home… which would be using a waaay slower connection than my work ethernet.

With the ability to stream fantastic quality video these days, i was hoping the answer would not be that the technology isnt good enough. If I get a chance today I will try iChat to iChat, see if that is substantially better or not.

    Thanks again,
    Mark.

    Hi Mark and Raymond,
Last Monday I took part in a very interesting experience:
    https://www.starbucksloveproject.com/
    and the result was this:

I had the pleasure to produce the streaming from Laoand have been really instructive.
A group of London (https://www.streamingtank.com) took care of all the technical side and helping the people that as my self, had nil idea of video-streaming.
We plugged a camera to my laptop trough FW and Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder did the rest.
All this to say that with a decent connexion you can get very good picture and in real time.
If you are used to H264, you know the needs of the connexion. You know what you can get with a 256 Mbps H264 or with a 1Mbps h264.
I guess that the software used to encode the stream will be very “easy going” giving priority to keep the stream over the quality.
With the lines that Mark says that he have access to, I think you could have a very nice streaming performance.
Would be nice if Apple would release iChat for Windows.
    Cheers,
    rafael

I’ve tested iChat Theater over our internal WiFi network with great results… but unless there’s been an upgrade I’m unaware of, the manual indicates that Mac OSX on both ends of the connection is a *system requirement* for iChat Theater to work, as indicated in previous posts.

How did you get it to work to a PC at all?

    Cheers,
