Jeff, you would cry shame of me and the basic off the self laptops that i use

Content on a daily basis lol. Stress free….
It really doesn’t matter which of the two you choose, You would hardly
see any significant difference between the two when working in Vegas.
Vegas is a bit different than other Media creation software, it doesn’t
fully capitalize on all the system resources that you throw at it.

It’s hard to say without actually testing them both with Vegas Pro. If you do the math, the 8-core has more power. 8 x 3Ghz = 24Ghz and 6 x 3.5Ghz = 21Ghz and if you look at the Geekbench scores for Mac Pro’s the 8-core 3.0Ghz scores 25537 while the 6-core 3.5Ghz only scores 20789 so clearly the 8-core is more powerful.

The problem is whether Vegas Pro will take advantage of it. I’m in the same boat because I want to pick up a older 12-core Mac Pro but what’s holding me back is I that I just sit here with my 8-core Mac Pro and watch Vegas only using 30% of the CPU and I have to ask myself, why would I buy a 12-core when Vegas Pro isn’t using all of the 8-cores that I already have?

So the 8-core will be a faster CPU than the 6-core in raw performance. Will Vegas Pro run faster? Who knows??? If it’s not going to use all the cores then it may actually be better to have fewer faster cores than more cores. I would look around and see if you can find any benchmarks.

The reason I chose Vegas is that it was the only NLE that ran smoothly on my off the shelf $800 computer. At that I am only able to run Movie Studio HD Platinum and I am looking forward to stepping up to Pro with a new computer build. I’m just waiting on the new processors, motherboards, and DDR 4 RAM.

Intel’s IvyBridge architecture has better performance than their SandyBridge counterparts. Check to see which architecture those CPUs are using.

Dave, these processors will use the new Haswell architecture. What was it about the IvyBridge architecture that made it better?
