I want to know if and when somebody tries this, if PPro works…

This would be huge for me if this works with PPro. At least until Adobe re-ports the Pro Suite to mac, as they’re rumored to.

April 5, 2006 at 4:05 pmIt should work just fine. The issues until to today have been getting all of the right drivers together in one place like Apple has just done. The Macs are really just PC’s with an EFI bios. The bios (booting) issue has been what has kept this from being done out of the gate.

Don’t count on it. PPro is heavily dependant on DirectX. Especially now, why not just install XP? Adobe still has to get Intel universal binaries of the current apps. Then it will be fun to load AE on both partitions and get a real benchmark of operating system performance issues.
Do you have one of these Macs? Give it a try ! Let us know.
Good luck,

April 5, 2006 at 9:16 pmI don’t have one yet, but it’s building a strong case…
My reason for asking is that I’ve encountered roadblocks on getting some of the Collection 2 software to install on certain WinXP configurations (like Premiere and Encore are picky about the CPU in the system for some reason…)
I’d heard that Adobe was taking the development back to OSX with all their video software. As much as I love my Matrox card, getting off of Windows would be very appealing if I can still edit in PPro.
I guess when leopard comes preinstalled on a PowerMac Intel, I’ll consider switching…

April 6, 2006 at 8:36 pmI’ve just tried doing the same on a system with an Athlon XP 3200+ and i get a little message saying my cpu doesn’t support SSE2. I’ve checked online and AMD only started supporting SSE2 on their 64bit chips. None of the socket A chips will run PPro 2.0 which sucks. Have to upgrade to AMD64 or go Pentium 4. From what i can see of the performance issues with PPro2 it needs a lot more muscle anyway.

April 9, 2006 at 10:12 pmUnfortunately only the AMD 64s support Ppro2 but it does need the extra horsepower, its not too expensive to do a upgrade as there are socket 939 Mobos that have AGP slots and most will use PC2700/PC3200 memory so you can get away with just buying a processor and MoBo and reusing drives, case and video card.
