I used to be able to preview audio in After Effects but can’t now.

I just upgraded to FCP 5 and new Decklink driver (from 4.5 and older driver). When I try to play back an audio file I exported from FCP, I get an error:

After Effects error: opening sound component (-2166).

I made sure that the audio preview settings in After Effects matched the FCP export. ie.: 48k, 16 bit, stereo.

have you tried it with other audio files, with different settings? I’ve had trouble with 48K audio in the past.

If you can play other audio in there it’s either an udio codec issue – i.e., AE can;t read it properly, or the fact that it’s at 48K (Whcih it really shouldn’t have trouble with but might).

If that is the problem, can you export your audio in a different format?

I’ve tried different formats and khz. I’ve even tried older files that worked before. Something happened when I upgraded to FCP 5 from 4.5, and to the new Decklink driver. Maybe I have to upgrade to AE 6.5 now from 6.0.
These unexpected upgrade costs are killing me.

you *might* want to try doing a repair install of AE off the AE CD. Something may have been damaged. But it may be that driver. Have you checked to see if there is a new driver available?

Have you upgraded your Quicktime to 7.0.2 to work with FCP 5?
    Can you downgrade to 7.0.1?

I just started having the same problem (though I’m on AE 5.5), and it’s a huge pain. Audio preview only works once in a great while. I think I finally might have to shell out for the upgrade that I have been avoiding for so long. Any pointers?
    thanks,
    steve

The more I think about it, the problem could be that QT 7.0.2 doesn’t work with AE 6.0. I had to upgrade to QT 7.0.2 in order to use FCP 5.0.
Could someone test this for me?

I just found out you either have to upgrade to AE 6.5 or downgrade to QT 6.0.1
