Maybe the subject got your attention this time. Sorry to be a little unorthodox but no one replied to my other post 🙁 Please help. I uploaded 720p HD footage into a CS3 project. When I scrub through (or play) the sequence, I get intermittent flashes of past (or future) frames. Totally messes up the project, even when I export, the output video is the same, flashes of random frames throughout. It looks awful. Whats going on? I have other HD footage from a different source and it takes it fine….

    Thanks

    Kaelin,

You haven’t mentioned where the footage came from.

In many cases, stuff coming from low end camcorders or the web will have to be converted to a format that is editable.

That also means that you will need very fast drives (dedicated RAID) to handle that new format if you convert to uncompressed, or you will have to recompress and lose further quality in the process. An alternative to uncompressed is Quicktime Photo Jpeg, or even DVC Pro HD.

You will also likely have to invest into a solid converter. The cheapest is probably Quicktime Pro, but it won’t support many formats.

A good solution is also TmpegEnc Xpress, not too pricey either and has a free trial.

What camera was the material shot on?
Did you upload from the camera itself?
    Did you use Clip Browser?
Did you convert to MXF, or did you keep it in its native format, such as MP4?
Please give us as much info as possible.

Again, you will need to convert to an editable format as described in my post above.

Ok, I understand. Im using Quicktime Pro to export the mp4. What is the best format to export for CS3? What bitrate and settings would be optimal for editing?

Uncompressed. H.264 is not great for editing no matter what you’re settings.
