    Yo, (Running 6.5 pro)

The festive time of year is on us again and I need to make a snowflake animation. The jist is that I need flakes to enter the frame from top to bottom doing there 360 spinny thing and nit together eventually turning the screen to a solid colour. I can achieve this by doing layer upon layer.

Is there any other way! using some high tech stuff that I don’t know about.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be snow useful.

    Nice one :o)

Maybe try using the shatter plug-in, backwards. Gravity direction 0 degrees, really small pattern, ie carpenters wheel.
mess around with it, you may get the results want. get my drift? :O)

    Yes Bear yes.

Does a bear poo in the woods!?

    I think so.

Even if i just use that as a supportive layer in the background it’ll make it more organic.

    cheers pal :o)

This is the kind of thing where I would use a particle system in the Foreground (like wondertouch particleIllusion or Trapcode Particular).

In the BG, I’d make 2 or more solids layers with a featherd mask at the top, and hill-like shapes. I’d animate those layers moving up at different speeds behind the snow, until they reach the top and fill the screen.

Here’s a movie of the final result, and then a breakdown of how I did it:

    Hope this helps explain it.

The snow was done in particleIllusion. Very easy. Just used a preset.

Motion has a preset for snow…it is wispy and swirly and wonderful. Render out a 10 second clip or longer with alpha…bring it into AE and layer it up with a couple different scale sizes. Looks great. I even combined it with Boris Continuum Snow generator to make it really natural.

I like the Motion preset however…
