I really need Key-light suggestions
Posted by Kyle Omlor on October 19, 2011 at 4:27 pmOK, I really need help with Key-light. No matter what I do, I get these green patches inside status mode. Obviously this means I have some serious transparency issues.
Please help, how do I get rid of these patches

October 19, 2011 at 4:30 pmTry adjusting the clip black and clip white parameters.
It’s only work if you’d rather be doing something else…

October 19, 2011 at 7:24 pmMaybe I’ll upload a screen capture of what I’m doing. I’m clipping Black, clipping White, Screen Gain, doing everything I can think of, and it never comes out right

October 19, 2011 at 8:24 pmDon’t try to use one instance of the keying effect on one layer to create your matte.
This is a very important conceptual hurdle for people who are new to color keying to get over.
The best multi-pass keying technique that I know of is described in Mark Christiansen’s After Effects Studio Techniques book.
There’s also a pretty good set of tutorials by Andrew Devis here on the COW. See this: “color keying tutorials from Andrew Devis (and more)”

October 19, 2011 at 9:40 pmFrom what I see in your post, it looks like you may have DV or similar type of 411 compression in your footage. Not a good choice for chroma.
Here’s a good tutorial on Keylight:
