2 Masks, one inside the other. The Outer Mask is set to Positive Mode and the Inner Mask is set to Negative Mode.

There is also this plugin that looks to make it simple. I remember seeing this when the author was beta testing it and posting here on this forum.

I think I have your answer and it is easy, use the cookie cutter in Vegas. I saw this video and tried it and it works! Very easy!

Wow, I forgot about that one also. And I even bought a copy when Fred posted it.

Thanks James, but I need rectangles of various sizes, and the cookie cutter doesn’t allow that.

[James Ollick] “I think I have your answer and it is easy, use the cookie cutter in Vegas.”

I understood Steve was wanting multiple rectangles and complete control of the spatial positioning of the rectangles. This can’t be achieved with Cookie Cutter, and that is why I offered the more complex but infinitely more controllable option than the Cookie Cutter and hence why I spent not a little time in delineating the dual Mask option. You should try it out, it’s quite a nice solution.

Yes it does! Just adjust the settings including the size slider. I tried it last night with various sizes.

    Thanks, Grazie and James.
James, Grazie is correct- I need to be able to change the X and Y size independently, which is impossible in the Cookie Cutter. I believe that the Cookie Cutter was designed for PIP, and never developed beyond its creation.

Grazie- This sounds like a good article to add to my Vegas Wiki: VegasTips, which I will do when I finish a time-sensitive project. Or I could give you an account on it. Take a look and send me an email.
