I need help with an effect.

A producer I am currently working with, really likes the look of the first effect on the aperture intro page here:

It’s the very first effect you see where the particles come together to form a picture in 3D space. Can something like this be done in AE? I have been messing around all morning and I can’t seem to make anything look like that. Is there a plug in that anyone knows about? Thanks a lot for your time.

That looks like Simulate>Card Dance One of the 5 effects for registering AE with Adobe) with lots of rows and columns. Google – After Effects Card Dance Tutorials – for the only tut I know of about it.
