I need a small canon camera to capture from?

Pick any one you’d like.
Any home video DV camcorder will work just fine.
There is no quality difference in the transfer because you are just ingesting a digital file of numbers from the tape via FireWire.

I have a half-dozen small camcorders that I use for this.

Paid under $150 for each of them, from local pawn shops.

If one fails (none have to date) I can just toss it and grab another.
