Here’s the deal. A friend of mine asked me if I would be interested in doing a 3D fly through of an entertainment center. Not the kind you put your tv and stereo equipment in, but a theme park type of entertainment center. There’s a water slide, equistrian center, ATV trail, etc.

Here’s my problem. My only experience in 3D is using Invigorator. I’m not sure of the time table, but the opportunity could lead me into a fantastic new job. It’s something I just can’t pass up.

    Now my questions.
Would C4D be the right software to do this?

I will be provided with the original autocad file. Is this a good thing?

What’s the best way to learn the basics of C4D?

I know this may sound like a suicide mission, but I’ve got to do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, postman

I gotta say that it IS a suicide mission if you’re starting 3D from scratch. I personally have been playing with 3D for 10 years and I wouldn’t take that (but I do despise modelling and texturing though).

Any 3D program is right for it. C4D is a great one. Learn here at the Cow, the books at Amazon.com, C4Dcafe.com, and 3Dattack.net among others.

You can have the original autocad file and bring it into C4D I believe, but does that include doorknobs, window casings, doorjambs, floor tile patterns, light enclosures, chairs, desks, plants, eating tables, mullions, soffits, coffee machines….?

I’m in this world now (actually kind of fun), but having the basics of the structure is only 1/100th of the battle. You’re in for a long, long job if it’s what it sounds like, with a polygon count that’ll get up into the multiple millions unless you just show a drywall box.

I’d say C4D is your best best, as it has the shortest learning curve of any of the serious 3D apps. However, I agree with Chris; it’s a suicide mission unless the deadline is two years away.
