I need a blackburst generator.. but which one?
Hi,
Recently while trying to output a HD project onto HDCAM I needed to use print to tape to be frame accurate. As it turned out kept dropping audio every few seconds. I am using the HDW D1800 Deck – https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-HDWD1800/
Went through the manual of the deck and couldn’t really find anything
Google’d it… Found that I need to give a ref through a blackburst generator
Found these options for generators-

Now I’m confused, Is the camera solution just a workaround?
Also the product specs of the generators show they generate a SD blackburst, Is that good enough for a ref for a HD project?
My system specs are –
Mac OS X
Version 10.6.3
Processor 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 6 GB 667MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMMFCP 7.0.3
Blackmagic DeckLink HD Extreme

Check if U don’t have an Ref o/p on the video card. This should be fine for genlocking the VTR. If not, and you’ll use an external genlock signal, both equipments must be genlocked to same source.

Horita will work. You can get a used one for about $50.
Try this first:
Take one more BNC, and loop the
Ref Video IN to the VIDEO INPUT on the VTR, and your problem will go away. (camera into Ref video in, ref video out to video in, video in loop to HD Extreme Genlock input. Both 75 ohm term switches OFF).Steve Eisen

Just to make sure I have it right.
I take a ref out from the camera and connect it to the Ref in of the Deck
Then connect the Ref out of the Deck to the Video in of the Deck?
Slightly confused here. Wouldn’t my Video out from FCP go into the Video in of the deck. I’ll be using the HDSDI input.
Or did you mean besides the HDSDI connect another BNC into the Video IN as well?
