    Thanks Steve.
I’ve been working with Fletcher already. We’ve been renting HD cameras when needed from them and Bexel. So far I’ve used their Panasonic Varicams and for this last shoot a few weeks ago, I used their Sony 900. The 900 is my favorate right now. Operationally it’s very similar to our Digibetas and it’s that comfort factor I like when under the gun. Bigger files but the 1080 24p looks pretty nice indeed. I would however like to get our hands on an HD XDCam soon for comparison. It’s not very convenient running to or shipping to/from Chicago all of the time. I believe that the time for our own camera is coming very soon.

    Wayne,

Thanks for the answers. Very helpful.
The thing is, what I’m looking for in the move to HD is
speeding up edit preparation after a multicam (4 cam simultaneous timecode)
shoot. The goal is to eliminate the capturing at realtime and only have data files.
But I don’t have the luxury of waiting a year until we can use the HD 35 setting.
I may be able to use the proxies for the multicam offline though.
I’ll be looking to see what those proxies look like and if they are good enough
for client offlines. Right now I offline at DV then uprez to 10 bit uncompressed
from DigiBeta. Or maybe I could you the HD25 data files in the offline,
then uprez in realtime to HD35. Thoughts?

We are now shooting tests with our first sensors at 4k resolution. We’re very happy with the sensor, which, as you know, is the heart of any camera. Camera body design and electronics are progressing well, and we’ll have new stuff to show at IBC.

    Thanks Graeme,
Always great to hear from you…… The nay sayers are very amusing aren’t they ? Bad time to be investing in $100K cameras.
