Hong Kong? Oh no – had people out at the Rugby sevens, could have stocked up! Too soon for OctoMacs and IO-HDs….

    Nice info.

    Ben,

As someone in the position of a) going to the states (Florida)in June (for work) and b) wanting a MBP and IoHD, what are the implications of buying in the States? I’m assuming that there’s a risk of incurring tax at the airport on the way back in, but aside from that, will Apple honour warranties and Applecare on a US bought machine?

Also any thoughts from our western herd of a good reseller in the Florida (Orlando mainly) area would be useful!

    Cheers]

What’s the import tax sting at the moment?

    Umm. Well….

Of course, I’ve never done this – nor had anyone I know. But, if I was buying a laptop on the states, and I took it out of the box, and put it in a laptop bag and carried it back, what would happen? Or if I bought a couple of Mac Pros, put them in big Peli cases and checked them on as luggage? I guess we’ll never know.

Mac laptops have worldwide warrantee support, and AJA support is best in the states anyway, so I have no qualms with US purchases. In actual fact, the MBP I currently use was purchased in the UK, as I needed custom options on it that I could not buy over the counter in the US.

If you’re talking about Jigsaw, their pricing has to be a mistake.
