This is exactly why I put this off for so long:

I upgraded to Quicktime 7 and use the Kona2 card for capturing HD from a D5. Before, the easy setups were straightforward and simple. Now? not so much. When I select Uncompressed 10-Bit 23.98, the sequence preset doesn’t work with the capture preset. The capture preset is set to Uncompressed 10-Bit, but the sequence is AJA Kona 10-big RGB codec. I also have the option of Aja Kona 10-bit Log RGB and AJA Kona 2Vuy Codec. What are the differences between these and what should I be using?

I posted this on the FCP forum as well. Anyone else have this issue when they upgraded?

Oh, and I’m still on FCP 4.5 if that makes a difference.

Absolutely makes a difference. You should not run QT 7 with FCP 4.5.

I know Walter will remember this…

The Pinnacle Cinewave support site used to post the currently recommend software configuration (MacOS, Quicktime, Cinewave drivers, etc.) that was approved for their hardware. I had learned (with some pain) not to perform any upgrades without first checking which combination of hardware/software was officialy “blessed” by Pinnacle. With the recent introduction of the PCI-e cards, Intel-compatible hardware, plus the eventual releases of OS-Leopard and Final Cut 6, wouldn’t it be great if AJA provided a recommended configuration tool for all of their products? As a Kona2 and LH user, I know that there will be some point where my upgrade path will end. Since the Pinnacle solution worked for me in the past, I wrote AJA and asked if they could do something similar. According to the email I received back from AJA, I’m happy to report that they have indeed been working on a matrix chart that will provide that information. They just don’t have a timeframe for when it will be complete. Hopefully it won’t be too long.

The support crew at AJA has been absolutely fabulous to work with. They definitely have validated our decision to go with AJA products. Having an up-to-date quick-reference compatiblity chart on their support site will certainly improve my situation, and hopefully yours as well.

    Thanks!
    Lon
